The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State have disagreed over the circumstances surrounding an airport reception for the NDC governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, and an incident at the party’s state secretariat over the weekend.

The disagreement followed separate statements by the Enugu State Government and the NDC, with both sides offering differing accounts of aspects of the events.

At a press conference, the NDC State Chairman, Emmanuel Chukwujekwu Nebo, challenged some of the explanations provided by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, regarding the incidents.

Nebo maintained that the party had planned to receive its governorship candidate at the airport and had not organised a statewide campaign flag off, contrary to the government’s account.

The NDC also stated that it had notified the relevant law enforcement agencies about its plans and made the necessary payments to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Addressing the incident at the party’s state secretariat, the NDC chairman said the party was still verifying the medical status of those reportedly injured.

Reacting to the NDC’s position, the Enugu State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chief Uche Obute, called on the opposition party to clarify its account of the events.

Obute also urged the NDC to apologise if any of its claims were found to be inaccurate.

The APC spokesman questioned the NDC’s statement that it was still verifying the medical status of those reportedly injured, while also referring to the party’s observance of a minute’s silence.

The exchange has highlighted growing political disagreement between the two parties over the airport reception and the incident at the NDC secretariat.

However, the competing accounts underscore the need for further clarification to establish the circumstances surrounding the events.
