The Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu West Senatorial District to mobilise support for Governor Peter Mbah, President Bola Tinubu and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Udeh made the appeal at the APC Enugu West Zonal Meeting held at the Awgu Local Government Headquarters, where he cited the state government’s investments in education, healthcare, aviation and infrastructure as reasons for party members to support the administration’s development agenda.
He highlighted projects including Enugu Air, the construction of 268 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as an ongoing international hospital project.
According to Udeh, Enugu Air was expected to begin flights from Enugu to Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom by December 2026, with a proposed route to Guangzhou, China, projected for the first quarter of 2027.
Addressing the issue of power rotation in Enugu State, the Chief of Staff urged residents of Enugu West to consider the implications of their political choices in the forthcoming elections. He argued that Governor Mbah’s re-election could create an opportunity for political power to return to the district.
“Enugu West, we should not sell our birthright. Let us not listen to those who promise to do one term. They are deceiving us,” Udeh said.
He also recalled the district’s support for Mbah during the 2023 governorship election and encouraged residents to sustain their support for the governor and other APC candidates in 2027.
On Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, Udeh said the move followed attempts to resolve challenges within the former party. He maintained that the defection had strengthened relations between the Enugu State Government and the Federal Government.
He pointed to the approval of a gas pipeline project for the South-East by President Tinubu, alongside ongoing work on the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt and Ninth Mile-Markurdi roads. He also referenced the rehabilitation of the Eastern railway corridor linking Port Harcourt, Aba and Enugu.
Udeh expressed optimism that Enugu State could secure additional ministerial representation after the 2027 elections, adding that cooperation between the state and Federal Government could facilitate further development projects.
The Chief of Staff further announced plans for women-focused empowerment initiatives, including financial assistance and grants for women-owned small businesses, aimed at helping them cope with economic hardship.
The meeting was attended by former PDP acting National Secretary, Chief Sunday Ude-Okoye; members of the Enugu State Executive Council from the zone; local government chairmen; political appointees and other APC stakeholders.
The meeting, led by APC Enugu West Zonal Chairman, Chief Chimaobi Nze, also featured calls for party members to protect their votes and work towards the success of APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
