Elders of Eziukwu Road Market, popularly known as Cemetery Market in Aba, have donated two Sienna vehicles to support the re-election bid of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The vehicles were presented on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, when the executive members of the Eziukwu Road Market Association, led by their leader, Chief Greg Okafor, popularly known as Owelle, visited the governor at his office.

Speaking on behalf of the association, Ambassador Mike Okoro said the donation was a demonstration of the traders’ appreciation for the Otti administration’s interventions in Aba and their commitment to supporting his second-term ambition.

Okoro particularly commended the state government’s approach to the proposed redevelopment of Eziukwu Road Market, noting that the assurances given by the governor had reassured traders that their businesses and livelihoods would be protected throughout the process.

He disclosed that the governor’s commitment to a carefully planned, phased redevelopment had generated excitement among traders, many of whom reportedly expressed interest in joining the delegation to appreciate the administration.

“We came to say thank you very much because you saved a lot of lives,” Okoro said, praising what he described as the governor’s interventions to protect traders and their sources of livelihood.

The market leaders also commended the administration’s road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state. They pledged their support for Otti’s re-election, saying the traders had resolved to vote for him in 2027.

Receiving the vehicles, Governor Otti thanked the association for the visit, the donation and its expression of support for his administration.

He assured the traders that his government would continue to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, restore Aba’s commercial prominence, improve public order and rebuild confidence among residents and business owners.

The governor said his administration had remained committed since 2023 to cleaning up public spaces, reclaiming deteriorated areas and restoring public confidence across the state.

He attributed the progress recorded in Abia to the resilience of the people and the grace of God, rather than personal achievements by his administration.

On the redevelopment of Eziukwu Road Market, Otti reiterated that the project would be executed in phases to minimise disruptions to commercial activities and protect traders’ livelihoods.

He explained that the government intended to carry out the remodelling in a manner that would accommodate traders’ concerns while creating a more conducive environment for business growth.

“We are not here to inflict injury on anybody; we are here to support you and your business so that you can do better,” the governor stated.

The planned redevelopment is part of the broader effort to improve commercial infrastructure and strengthen Aba’s position as a major trading centre in Abia State.
