Pope Leo XIV has reportedly entered the history books after casting his ballot in a United States election, becoming the first sitting pontiff known to have done so.
The Vatican confirmed that the Chicago-born leader of the Catholic Church, whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost, submitted a mail-in ballot in Illinois ahead of the November midterm elections.
Although he now resides in the Vatican, Leo XIV retains his US citizenship and was able to participate in the election as an American voter.
His decision marks a historic moment for the papacy, adding another unique chapter to the tenure of the first US-born pope.
Leo XIV continues to lead the Catholic Church while maintaining his citizenship and connection to his home country.
