The Enugu State Government has signed a partnership agreement with Humatrix Limited to establish a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) hub aimed at creating more than 100,000 jobs for young people within five years.
The agreement, signed at Government House, Enugu, marks the implementation phase of the initiative, which is designed to position the state as a leading destination for digital services and outsourcing in Nigeria and across Africa.
The partnership aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s economic diversification agenda, human capital development policy and efforts to attract private investment into the state.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director of Humatrix Limited, Dr Dakuku Peterside, said the company selected Enugu after assessing its investment climate, policy consistency and the state government’s commitment to economic transformation.
Peterside explained that the company would begin operations with a 750 seat Business Process Outsourcing centre, with plans to expand its capacity to more than 2,000 seats within the first year.
He added that the long term target was to create over 100,000 jobs within five years, providing employment opportunities for young people and strengthening the state’s digital economy.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on MSME and Digital Economy, Mr Arinze Chilo-Offiah, described the agreement as a major step towards achieving the administration’s ambition of growing Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
He said the Enugu Talent City Initiative was designed to attract global companies, develop local talent and enable young people to provide digital services to international clients while working from the state.
Governor Peter Mbah said the partnership reflected his administration’s commitment to equipping young people with relevant skills, creating rewarding employment opportunities and reducing the need for residents to leave the state in search of jobs.
The initiative is expected to strengthen Enugu’s position in the digital services sector while expanding employment opportunities and attracting further investment into the state.
