The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 general elections, with party leaders and stakeholders pledging to mobilise support for the re-election of Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.

The campaign flag off, held on Wednesday at the Nsukka Township Stadium, attracted party faithful, political office holders, traditional rulers, community leaders and supporters from the state’s three senatorial districts.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Mbah highlighted his administration’s achievements in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development, while promising to sustain ongoing projects and expand opportunities for residents.

He urged voters to assess his administration based on its performance, arguing that the government’s record of completed and ongoing projects should guide their decisions at the polls. He also criticised the opposition for failing, in his view, to present a clear manifesto.

Speaking about the ongoing dualisation of the Penoks–T Junction–Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka Road, Mbah said the project had reduced travel time and improved road safety.

He disclosed that the contractor had given assurances that the road would be ready for commissioning before the end of 2026.

The governor also said improved security along the route had helped residents overcome the fear and disruption previously associated with travelling on the road, including the impact of the once-feared Monday sit-at-home order.

Mbah further cited the 40 kilometre Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Umualor-Ikem dual carriageway as part of his administration’s efforts to improve connectivity between communities and open new routes to the North-Central region.

On education, the governor said the Smart Green Schools initiative was designed to improve learning standards and equip pupils with skills needed for the modern economy.

He disclosed that more than 6,000 additional teachers had been recruited and were undergoing training at the state’s Centre for Experiential Learning and Innovation.

In the health sector, Mbah said his administration was constructing Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state’s 260 electoral wards. He added that the facilities would be equipped with healthcare personnel and residential accommodation.

The governor also listed the reopening of the Presidential Hotel, International Conference Centre, United Farm Products Limited, Songhai Enugu Integrated Farm and Sunrise Rice Flour Mill among the investments aimed at stimulating economic activities and creating jobs.

He described Enugu Air as part of the state’s economic development strategy, announcing plans for direct flights to London in the coming weeks, with services to the United States and China also being projected before the end of the first quarter of 2027.

Mbah acknowledged that more work remained, particularly in road infrastructure, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its 10,000-kilometre road construction target.

On workers’ welfare, he said the state had approved ₦32 billion to address inherited pension and gratuity liabilities, with payments of outstanding gratuities dating back to 2000 already underway.

The governor also commended President Tinubu for federal interventions in the South-East, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission, regional gas pipeline projects, road infrastructure and appointments of people from the region to key public offices.

Earlier, Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai urged residents to support the administration’s development programmes, accusing opposition parties of spreading misinformation.

Other party leaders and political stakeholders, including former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, represented by Commissioner for Local Government Matters, Deacon Okey Ogbodo; APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr Ben Nwoye; Enugu APC Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunwike; and other elected and appointed officials, expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

The Enugu APC said it would follow the flag-off with a statewide campaign tour to take its message to communities across the state.

The event marks the beginning of the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
