The Stand For Humanity Foundation has intensified its campaign against child abuse and exploitation, taking its sensitisation programme to Umuozu community in Isiala mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
The organisation’s President, Mr Chidiebube Okeoma, led the campaign at Nkwodim Square, where he warned residents against all forms of child abuse, stressing that offenders could face prosecution and imprisonment under the law.
Addressing residents and children at the gathering, Okeoma urged parents and guardians to provide a safe and supportive environment for children, ensure their access to education and protect them from physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
He disclosed that the foundation was strengthening its efforts to combat child abuse, adding that some alleged offenders had been arrested and were either in police custody or facing prosecution.
Okeoma also encouraged children to take their education seriously and conduct themselves responsibly, reminding them of their right to care, protection and access to schooling.
He further advised parents and guardians who felt unable to care for children under their supervision to seek assistance from their biological parents or appropriate government authorities rather than subjecting them to abuse.
According to him, the foundation maintains zero tolerance for child abuse and remains committed to promoting children’s rights and welfare.
The campaign received applause from community members, with some residents reportedly expressing willingness to collaborate with the organisation in its efforts to prevent child abuse.
The sensitisation exercise also provided an opportunity to educate parents, guardians and children on the importance of creating a community where children can grow in safety, dignity and access to education.
