The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially announced the departure of Hossam Hassan as head coach of the Egyptian national team, bringing his time in charge of the Pharaohs to an end.

The decision was confirmed on Saturday, November 7, following days of speculation surrounding the 60-year-old manager’s future.

In the same announcement, the EFA confirmed the appointment of Ali Maher as his successor, with the Ceramica Cleopatra manager set to take charge of the national team.

The federation expressed its appreciation to Hassan for his contributions during his time with the team and wished him success in his future endeavours.

Hassan’s departure comes amid a difficult period for Egyptian football, with recent controversies involving the coaching staff and reports of tensions within the national team attracting considerable attention.

His exit also comes just days before Egypt’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Malawi, scheduled for November 13 and 17.

Maher, 52, now faces the immediate responsibility of preparing the Pharaohs for the two encounters as he begins his tenure with the national team.

The new appointment marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for Egyptian football as the federation looks to move forward under different leadership.
