The Labour Party faces internal turmoil as its administration is reportedly taken over by the Board of Trustees following the re-election of National Chairman Julius Abure.

Amidst controversies surrounding the national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, the Board of Trustees (BoT) has asserted its authority, citing the expiration of Abure’s tenure and questioning the legitimacy of his re-election.

According to a statement from BoT Chairman, Sylvester Ejiofor, the intervention aims to prevent a leadership vacuum and adhere to the party’s constitutional provisions.

The BoT plans to oversee an all-inclusive national convention, as mandated by a Federal High Court judgment and previous agreements with major stakeholders.

While the party’s leadership remains inaccessible for comment, a chieftain dismissed the BoT’s action as illegitimate, highlighting the lack of prior mention of the BoT’s involvement in party affairs.
