Senator Benson Konbowei of Bayelsa Central found himself remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, following allegations of forgery related to his National Youth Service Corps exemption certificate.
Though granted a N50 million bail, the court ordered his remand until the bail conditions are met.
Konbowei pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery during his arraignment on Tuesday.
The prosecution accused him of forging a document titled ‘Certificate of Exemption,’ dated July 4, 2008.
Despite vehement opposition from the prosecution, the court granted bail, requiring two sureties with Federal Capital Territory landed properties.
The judge adjourned the case to June 24, 25, and 27, as the senator awaits the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
