The Edo State House of Assembly executed the impeachment of the embattled Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Monday.

The impeachment decision followed the assembly’s acceptance of the report from a seven-man investigative panel tasked with probing allegations of misconduct against Shaibu.

Amidst mounting tension, the assembly’s impeachment proceedings concluded with a decisive vote resulting in Shaibu’s removal from office.

Earlier on Thursday, investigation into allegations of constitutional violations by Shaibu was done, highlighting his absence during the panel’s proceedings.

Despite attempts to defend himself, Shaibu’s failure to appear before the panel prompted its members to forward their findings to the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.

The panel’s chairman, Justine Stephen A. Omonuwa (Rtd), emphasized the importance of allowing Shaibu to defend himself but ultimately adjourned the proceedings, marking the conclusion of their inquiry.

In response to the legal battle, Shaibu’s representative, Professor Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN), sought permission to withdraw from the proceedings, citing legal obligations elsewhere.
