Members of the local Muslim council, led by Chief Imam Sheik Ali Ukiwo, in a heartfelt meeting with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, expressed a significant concern following the conclusion of their 30-day Ramadan fast.
Gathered at the Governor’s residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, the community took the opportunity not only to extend traditional Salah greetings but also to highlight an issue deeply affecting them.
The Muslim leaders expressed gratitude towards Governor Otti for his role in enhancing security, peace, and leadership in the state, remarking on the restored hope among the citizens after two decades.
However, the visit also brought to the fore a pressing matter: the lack of a designated burial ground for the Muslim community, a predicament stemming from actions by a previous administration which reallocated land plots previously designated for this purpose without notice or compensation.
Sheik Ukiwo appealed to Governor Otti for intervention, emphasizing the community’s distress over the lost land and financial investment.
Governor Otti, in response, extended his congratulations to the Muslim faithful on completing their fast, acknowledging their support during the election and assuring them of a non-discriminatory government stance.
He committed to investigating the complaint, reinforcing the view of the Muslim community as an integral part of his administration’s fabric.
