Once again, Nigeria’s electricity grid has suffered a collapse, plunging the nation into another power outage.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the grid collapsed around 2:42 am on Monday, with generation plummeting to a mere 64.70 megawatts.
Data from the Independent System Operator (ISO), a branch of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, revealed that only one generation company, Ibom Power, remained active during the collapse.
This marks the second grid collapse in April and sixth in 2024 so far.
As of 8 am on Monday, the ISO data showed that the grid is currently generating 266.50 megawatts of electricity from Okpai, Geregu, and Ibom power.
Jos DisCo, confirming the collapse in a statement, attributed the outage to the loss of power supply from the national grid. Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, the company’s head of Corporate Affairs, expressed hope for a swift restoration of the grid to ensure normal power supply to customers within their franchise states.
