The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is poised to address internal dissent as its National Working Committee (NWC) prepares to submit a crucial report on members who engaged in anti-party activities during the 2023 elections.

This report, due for presentation to the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday, follows a comprehensive review initiated by the PDP leadership.

In a directive issued on March 26 by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, state chairmen were tasked with compiling detailed accounts of member actions during the elections.

“A lot of agitations are coming from party members, suspend this, suspend that, you are the ones that are in charge of those states. You are to tell us who was involved in anti-party activities and who did not; and based on that, the NEC will take a decision. Write to us and tell us what transpired, no matter what happened,” Bature stated during a meeting in Abuja.

According to sources, the spotlight is on former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, who, along with the G-5 PDP governors, notably opposed the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the electoral period.

Wike’s dissent followed Atiku’s decision to overlook him as a vice-presidential pick after the primaries, leading Wike to conspicuously campaign for Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

Insiders reveal that Atiku’s allies have pushed for repercussions, advocating that Wike and other key figures such as Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Okezie Ikpeazu face sanctions for their roles.

The report, once submitted to the NEC, will be reviewed by the disciplinary committee, which will then propose specific sanctions based on individual involvements.

“The list will be submitted to the NEC. The list of those involved in anti-party activities is not viewed as a punishment. The report will be presented to the NEC, and based on the report, the disciplinary committee will identify individuals according to their roles and recommend appropriate sanctions,” stated NWC members.
