The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is determined to apprehend Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, promising a forceful arrest if necessary to bring him to court for the charges against him.

This declaration comes after Bello’s attorney, Abdulwahab Muhammed, SAN, declined to accept legal papers on his client’s behalf, indicating that Bello is actively evading arrest.

During a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, the EFCC’s legal team, led by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, expressed readiness to enforce the arrest warrant with all available means, including potential military involvement.

Pinheiro declared, “We have to arraign him in court even if we have to use the military. Immunity is only attached to a person and not the building.”

He further highlighted the legal provisions supporting their stance, stating, “The law allows to break down walls to arrest an evading defendant. Section 284 says all persons are to obey the service of charge.”

The case continues to develop as the EFCC intensifies its efforts to locate and arrest Bello, promising updates as the situation unfolds.
