The Nigerian Army has taken decisive action, dismissing Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani over their involvement in the theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos State.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s spokesman, the dismissal follows a thorough investigation into the incident, which occurred on April 14, 2024.
“In line with the Nigerian Army’s commitment to upholding high standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline, the dismissal of Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani underscores the army’s zero-tolerance for misconduct and criminality within its ranks,” Nwachukwu stated in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters.
Following collaboration with the management of the company, the soldiers were found to have abandoned their duty post and were in unauthorized possession of the materials.
They were subsequently charged and summarily tried, leading to their dismissal from the Nigerian Army with immediate effect.
This decisive action reaffirms the Nigerian Army’s dedication to maintaining its institutional integrity and reputation, setting a clear message against misconduct among its personnel.
