Former Attorney General Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN) has tendered his resignation from the Rivers State Cabinet after being deployed to the Ministry of Special Duties by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, Adangor cited interference in his duties and a breach of trust by the governor as reasons for his resignation, effective from April 24, 2024.
Accusing Governor Fubara of directing him not to defend or oppose suits against the government filed by individuals sponsored by the state, Adangor expressed his unwillingness to continue serving under the administration.
“The Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
“I wish to state for the record, that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever.
“It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits insinuated against the Honourable Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State,” Channels TV quoted Adangor as saying in a statement.
The reshuffle, approved by the governor, saw Adangor moved to the Ministry of Special Duties, while Barr. Isaac Kamalu, former Commissioner for Finance, was reposted to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.
Both Adangor and Kamalu, known as core loyalists of Minister of FCT, Wike, had resigned last December but were reinstated following a peace agreement in Abuja.
