Rivers State’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, highlighted the fortune of the two departing commissioners, acknowledging Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s tolerance amidst their resignations.
“The reasons they’ve given seem like an afterthought,” remarked Johnson, urging the commissioners not to wait until their resignation to voice their concerns.
According to reports, Prof. Zaccaeus Adangor(SAN) and Isaac Kamalu, both loyalists of ex-governor Nyesom Wike, resigned from Fubara’s cabinet following a political dispute.
Their resignations came after Fubara reshuffled his cabinet, reassigning them to different ministries.
Adangor accused Fubara of interfering with his duties as the Attorney General, while Kamalu questioned the reported rise in monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Responding to the resignations, Johnson emphasized the governor’s tolerance and questioned the timing of their complaints.
“It’s ironic that only now, after their reassignments, they voice concerns about interference,” stated Johnson.
He continued, “Their roles belonged to the governor, who can hire and fire at will. If there were genuine concerns, they should have acted sooner.”
Regarding Kamalu’s objections to the IGR, Johnson defended the governor’s transparency, citing ongoing projects funded without borrowing.
“He’s a governor of action, not just words,” concluded Johnson, dismissing Kamalu’s criticisms as baseless.
