In Ezinifite, Aguata local government area of Anambra State, the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare stepped in to rescue Chidiebere Otenyi, a victim of domestic abuse, after a concerned whistle-blower alerted Commissioner Ify Obinabo.

Commissioner Obinabo, infuriated by the severity of the abuse inflicted by Mrs. Martha Umenweke, vowed swift justice for the perpetrator, emphasizing that such cruelty would not go unpunished.

Chidiebere, from Nkanu, Enugu State, recounted enduring punishment and starvation at Martha’s hands for alleged theft, revealing that she was demoted to primary 3 despite being 19 years old.

Mrs. Umenweke, in her late sixties, defended her actions, accusing Chidiebere of theft and enlisting an accomplice, Mr. David, who restrained the victim after the assault.

The case has been referred to the police for further investigation and prosecution at the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka.
