A Catholic Reverend Sister has been arrested for her involvement in the alleged abduction and trafficking of two children in Anambra State.

This arrest came after two of the three abducted siblings were rescued by security operatives in Ekwulobia and Nkpor, Anambra, and reunited with their parents in Amaba Ime, Ikwuano Council Area of Abia State.

The Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Mr. Osinachi Nwaka, revealed the details during a visit from the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, led by Promise Uzoma Okoro, as reported by Daily Post.

Nwaka disclosed that the Reverend Sister, described as the ‘middleman’ in a child trafficking syndicate, is currently detained by the police.

“The Reverend Sister is the middle person that distributes the children and collects her cut, she’s wearing white and still in state CID till today,” Nwaka said.

He emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that the disappearance of the three children caused him considerable distress, leading to multiple meetings with various security agencies.

He praised the efforts of Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, and other security heads in the state for their roles in rescuing the children.

Nwaka also highlighted the alarming nature of child trafficking in local governments, citing that one of the abducted boys was sold for N1.8 million.

He urged the public and OMPAN members to cooperate in identifying and prosecuting those involved in the illicit trade for the safety of the state.

“There are syndicates in every local government that trade on children. It amazes me that a man that bought one of the first boys paid N1.8m to buy life,” Nwaka added.

He advised parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts and cautioned schools against sending pupils away due to unpaid tuition.
