The political battle between the former governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle of APC, and his successor, Dauda Lawal of PDP, took another dimension today as men of the Nigerian Force raided the ex-governor’s house in Gusau, recovering a good number of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) allegedly belonging to the state government.
Two days after his inauguration, Lawal accused his predecessor of leaving office with 17 government vehicles and looting petty properties, including televisions and electric cookers, from the state house.
In a press statement issued last Saturday by his spokesman, Suleiman Idris, the Zamfara state governor also gave Matawalle a five-day ultimatum to return all government vehicles allegedly carted away by officials of his administration.
While Zamfara State’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Bunu, has not confirmed or denied this report, efforts made by MUK TV’s correspondent to reach him have remained abortive as he has not responded to the messages sent to his line at the time of filling out this report.
However, a chieftain of the APC and friend of Metawalle, Femi Fani Kayado, confirmed the report in a Facebook post he made on the verified page.
Sharing the news, the former Aviation Minister said, “Not satisfied with raiding his home in Maradun this morning, the new Gov. of Zamfara ordered that the home of former Gov. Bello Matawalle should be raided by police in Gusau as well.
“Again, no court order, no search warrant, and no arrest warrant. When will this madness stop?”
At the twilight of his administration, Mr. Matawalle was at loggerheads with EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa over a N70 billion corruption allegation.
