The factional Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, which is led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has blocked Governor Siminalayi Fubara from making any expenditures until he presents the state budget to the lawmakers.
During Monday’s plenary session, the assembly acted on a motion raised by House Leader Major Jack, highlighting the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to submit the 2024 budget.
Following the deliberation, the assembly voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, effectively halting all state expenditures until Governor Fubara complies with their demand.
