The Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Nsukka Division, under the Enugu State Police Command, has apprehended 30-year-old Nweke Chukwuemeka for the brutal murder of a four-year-old girl.
The suspect is accused of slashing the throat of the young girl, Zinachukwu Ugwu, with a knife while she was asleep.
The horrifying act reportedly took place after the suspect had consumed methamphetamine, a potent drug commonly known as Mkpurummiri in the area.
According to the police, the tragic incident occurred in a compound on Orba Road, located in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the state’s police command, confirmed the arrest in a statement. He explained that officers acted swiftly upon receiving a distress call regarding the murder, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Ndukwe further stated that the suspect is accused of killing the child in cold blood while she was sleeping, a crime that has left the community in shock.
