Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), has been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

According to reports, both individuals were fellow church members in Ogun State.

Christianah, who had left her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, was on her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for industrial training when heavy rain forced her to take refuge at Adeleye’s family shop, located near his home.

A source disclosed to FIJ that Adeleye, who had known Christianah through church and school, invited her into his house when the rain worsened.

Once inside, he allegedly attempted to assault her. When Christianah resisted, he killed her.

Following her disappearance, Adeleye used Christianah’s phone to demand a ransom of N3 million from her family, which was eventually negotiated down to N350,000.

His involvement unraveled after intelligence officers traced him using his bank and BVN details when he collected the ransom.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for swift justice and a tougher stance on gender-based violence in Nigeria.
