Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland and a distinguished monarch of Osun State, has passed away.

His passing was reported in a statement signed on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital, by Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi,

Prior to Fasuyi confirming the monarch’s passage, there was concern for Oba Aromolaran’s well-being as he was rumored to be ill.

In a letter of condolence that he personally sent to punch’s correspondent, Fasuyi confirmed the monarch’s passing and wrote,

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also expressed his deep sorrow over the death of the monarch via his X account on Thursday.

In a statement, Atiku recalled the late monarch’s fatherly warmth, describing him as more than just a father-in-law but a symbol of courage, boldness, and discipline emblematic of the Ijesha people.

He ascended the throne on February 20, 1982, and  has spent 42 years on the throne until his demise.
