The Action People’s Party (APP) has claimed a dominant victory in the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State, winning 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions.

MUK TV reports that the elephant party, supported by Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his loyalists, has been strategically positioned to reclaim the state’s political structures from the influence of former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

APP’s triumph over People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC)– both controlled by Wike, could mark the beginning of Fubara’s strong footing in Rivers politics.

Adolphus Enebeli, the Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the results on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

However, the commission suspended the declaration for Etche Local Government Area due to ongoing collation.

The final result, including the 319 councillorship seats, will be announced at a later date.
