The BRICS alliance officially expanded its network at the 2024 summit in Kazan, Russia, adding 13 new partner countries, including Nigeria, though not as full members.
The summit, held from October 22 to 24, unveiled this notable shift.
The newly joined partner nations include Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
With this move, Nigeria is now a BRICS partner country, taking a giant step in its international alliances.
Originally formed as an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, and China, BRICS brought in South Africa in 2010.
The alliance further expanded this year by granting full membership to Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, who attended the summit as official participants.
