The convoy of Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, the federal lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, came under attack by gunmen at around 9 PM on Sunday, November 17, at Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area.
Tragically, a policeman attached to the lawmaker lost his life during the attack. Reports indicate that Hon. Onwusibe was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident, but two police officers and a driver were present.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the gunmen opened fire after the police escorts identified themselves.
One officer was killed, while another sustained injuries during the ambush. The attackers fled the scene, prompting officers from the Ubakala police station to respond with gunfire.
According to police sources, efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects, who are believed to be kidnappers.
The Abia State Police Command has assured the public that they are actively pursuing the perpetrators to bring them to justice.
