A disturbing case of alleged assault has emerged from Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, involving a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and a teacher, as reported by ABN TV.
The corps member, who visited the school to collect her clearance letter, was reportedly attacked by a teacher for what was deemed “not greeting properly.”
Eyewitnesses narrated that the confrontation began when the teacher accused the corps member of showing disrespect in her greeting.
The altercation escalated, resulting in the alleged assault, which left the corps member with minor injuries.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the teacher’s actions.
A student who witnessed the episode shared their disbelief: “We couldn’t believe what we saw. A teacher should be a role model, not someone who uses force over such a small matter.”
Efforts to get comments from the school’s authorities have been unsuccessful so far.
However, the NYSC management in Kwara State is aware of the incident and is expected to issue an official statement.
The Kwara State Ministry of Education has also been urged to investigate thoroughly to ensure accountability and justice.
The incident has reignited debates about the treatment of corps members in their places of primary assignment.
Many are now calling for stricter measures to safeguard corps members from harassment and abuse.
