Chairman of GUO Transport, Chief Godwin Okeke, has donated five fully furnished classroom blocks to Archbishop Onyemelukwe Grammar School, Oroma-Etiti, in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, while also pledging a ₦100 million scholarship fund for students of Anam.
The scholarship programme, valued at ₦100 million, will be disbursed in annual installments of ₦20 million to support students from the area and promote access to quality education.
Speaking during the commissioning of the new classroom blocks, Okeke emphasized the need for deliberate investment in education and human capital development, noting that many schools still lack basic infrastructure such as classrooms, laboratories, desks, and sanitary facilities.
He called on governments, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to partner in improving educational standards, stressing that no single institution can address the challenges facing the sector alone.
According to the transport magnate, the intervention is part of a broader vision to transform Anam into a hub for both agricultural production and value-added processing, thereby creating greater economic opportunities for residents.
Okeke also performed the foundation-laying ceremony for a new All Saints Anglican Church building, describing the project as a legacy initiative that would strengthen faith and community development for future generations.
The event attracted traditional rulers, religious leaders, teachers, students, and community stakeholders, who commended the philanthropist for his commitment to education and social development.
In his remarks, the Bishop of Niger East, Rt. Revd Obiora Uzochukwu, described Okeke’s interventions as a demonstration of genuine service to humanity and urged other privileged individuals to emulate his philanthropic example.
The newly commissioned facilities include modern classrooms, staff offices, and sanitary amenities designed to provide a conducive learning environment for students and teachers.
