2013 AFCON champion and former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, has signed with Enyimba, the nine-time Nigerian league champions, until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Enyimba’s Sporting Director and ex-international, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, confirmed the development on Tuesday.
“Yes, the talks have been going on for a while, and we completed it yesterday. He will be with us until the end of the season, and we believe he will bolster our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent,” Ekwueme told PUNCH Online.
The 36-year-old striker, who last played for Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, returns to Nigeria’s top flight after a 17-year hiatus, following his departure from Ocean Boys in 2006.
His move mirrors that of former teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, who currently play for Kano Pillars.
Ideye’s return comes after a failed transfer to Rivers United in October. Now, he is poised to strengthen Enyimba as they face critical fixtures in both the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the CAF Confederation Cup.
Enyimba will host Sunshine Stars on Wednesday in a rescheduled NPFL clash before traveling to Maputo, Mozambique, to face Black Bulls in their third CAF Confederation Cup group-stage match.
