Ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is currently presiding over a plenary session with only four other members in attendance.
The session began after security personnel forcefully opened the chamber doors.
By 3:00 p.m., proceedings had commenced and were still ongoing as of 3:30 p.m, according to Vanguard.
Meanwhile, over 26 other assembly members remained outside, refusing to enter the chamber in apparent support of the substantive Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
Obasa, who has consistently challenged his removal, maintained that due process was not followed in his impeachment.
“I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not democratic,” he stated.
Obasa was ousted as Speaker on January 13 while he was abroad, with Mojisola Meranda swiftly installed as his replacement.
However, he continues to insist that he remains the rightful Speaker of the House.
