
A 45-year-old teacher, Musa Wada, has been arrested in Jigawa State for the gruesome murder of his 14-year-old Almajiri student, Bashir Adamu.
Wada allegedly beheaded the boy and cut off his genitals in an attempt to mislead the public into believing the killing was carried out by ritualists.
Confirming the arrest, the Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu, stated that detectives apprehended the suspect following a tip-off.
According to Shiisu, Wada confessed during interrogation that Bashir died while being punished for absenteeism from school. In a bid to cover up the incident, he decapitated the body and removed the genitals to stage the murder as a ritual killing.
“On 13/03/2025 at about 1530hrs, one Mal. Musa Wada ‘m’ age 45yrs of Jikas-Dabaja village, Gwaram LGA, was arrested in connection with the gruesome killing of his pupil (Almajiri), one Bashir Adamu.
“Following a tip-off, detectives attached to the Gwaram Division successfully arrested the suspect.
“On interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department Dutse, the suspect confessed that the late Bashir Adamu was his student but refused to come to school; when he questioned him about the reason for his absence, he failed to provide a satisfactory response; as a result, he decided to punish him.
“In the process, Bashir lost consciousness and passed away. While attempting to deceive the public into believing that ritualists had killed Bashir, he decided to cut off his head and genital organs.
“He added that the removed head and genital organs were buried in his farmland.”
The shocking crime came to light on March 12, 2025, when police in Gwaram received reports about a beheaded and mutilated corpse found by the roadside near Jikas-Dabaja village.
According to reports, the body was already decomposing when discovered.
Authorities later identified the victim as Bashir Adamu, a student of Musa Wada, confirming the link between the gruesome find and the suspect.
