
South African singer and songwriter Yolanda “Yallunder” Nyembezi has sadly passed away at the age of 31 after battling a prolonged illness. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement shared on her Instagram account.
With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend, Yolanda Nyembezi, known to the world as Yallunder. A soul so rare and a voice so rich, Yolanda graced this earth with a spirit that was as warm as it was powerful,” the statement read.
Born on August 23, 1994, in Bizana, Eastern Cape, Yallunder was more than just a talented singer – she was a gifted songwriter and a classically trained musician. A cum laude graduate in vocal pedagogy, she combined technical excellence with raw passion, leaving an undeniable mark on the South African music scene.
According to her family, she fought bravely through months of illness, showing immense strength until her passing on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital. “Her journey was one of resilience and grace, and even in her most vulnerable moments, she remained a beacon of love, kindness, and artistry,” the statement continued.
As they grieve this immeasurable loss, her loved ones have requested prayers and support. “Losing her has left an unimaginable void in our hearts, but we find solace in knowing that her music, her legacy, and the love she shared with the world will live on forever.”
