Burkina Faso and Mali have dispatched a high-ranking joint delegation to Niamey, the capital of Niger, to offer their support and show solidarity between the countries following a military coup that has received subregional sanctions from the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS).

The delegation, which is led by Lt. Col. Abdoulaye, the Malian Minister of Territorial Administration and Spokesperson of the Government, is expected to arrive on Monday.

This solidarity visit comes a day after Niger defied the deadline of the ultimatum given by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to reinstate its democratically elected President, Mohamed Bazoum, or face military action.

Burkina Faso and Mali are military-led countries in West Africa; hence, their support for the Nigerien juntas.
