Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), setting the pace for the political realignment that is expected ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The dramatic switch comes just days after MUK TV reported that three PDP governors, including Oborevwori, were in advanced talks to join the ruling APC.

The announcement was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday evening.

Confirming the move, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the decision followed “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP, was welcomed into the APC fold by senior party officials.

Political observers see the move as a calculated step that could reshape the balance of power in the South-South region as the 2027 elections draw near.
