A fierce late-night gun battle in Katsina State has ended with the death of a dreaded bandit, Audu Kushin, and the rescue of five abducted victims, following a swift police response to a coordinated attack on rural communities.

The dramatic confrontation unfolded around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday when armed bandits stormed Unguwar Lado and Karo villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area, unleashing terror and sparking chaos among residents.

Responding promptly to a distress call, a tactical team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Malumfashi Division engaged the attackers in a shootout, forcing the criminals to flee under heavy firepower.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, revealing that Audu Kushin—one of the region’s most wanted criminals from Tsamiyar Maigoro village—was gunned down during the operation.

The officers’ swift and courageous action led to the neutralisation of a notorious bandit and the successful rescue of five kidnapped victims,” Aliyu stated.

However, before retreating, the assailants shot the hostages, who sustained varying degrees of injuries. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Malumfashi and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Aliyu emphasized that an intensive manhunt is ongoing to capture the fleeing suspects. He reassured the public of the police’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and share timely information that could assist security agencies in combating banditry and other threats to public safety.
