The doping allegations against Nigerian track and field athlete, Tobi Amusan, have been cleared, with the provisional suspension earlier placed on her lifted.
This latest development means the Nigerian medal hopeful will participate in the World Championship coming up in Budapest, Hungary.
Recall that the Nigerian track queen had been charged with three whereabouts failures, an anti-doping rule violation for missing three out-of-competition tests within a year, a charge which she appealed.
However, a statement by Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, noted that Tobi Amusan has not committed any offense and therefore, her “provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect.”
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within 12 months,” the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said in a Thursday evening statement.
“AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline.
“The decision is currently confidential but will be published in due course. Amusan’s provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect.”
Meanwhile, reacting to the AIU’s ruling, Amusan said that was thrilled to put this behind her, noting that she is looking forward to defending her title in Budapest World Championship.
