AAUA Student,Joy Adeyemi Found Stabbed To Death By Fleeing Boyfriend, Sparks Outrage, Protests

The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a female student, identified as Joy Adeyemi, whose decomposing body was discovered days after she was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend.

Joy, a final-year student in the Department of Human Kinetics, was reportedly killed last Tuesday in her off-campus apartment. Her remains were only discovered over the weekend after neighbours raised alarm over a foul smell emanating from her locked room.

Eyewitnesses say the suspect, now on the run, murdered Joy and made away with cash reportedly belonging to her Point of Sale (POS) business. “We hadn’t seen her since Tuesday,” said a student identified simply as Kunle. “Neighbours started perceiving an odour, and upon forcing the door open, her lifeless body was found with multiple stab wounds.”

This latest tragedy follows closely on the heels of the shocking killings of two other students, Andrel Okah and John Abba, allegedly abducted and murdered by their landlord and accomplices. The prime suspect, identified as Tallex, reportedly died in police custody.

In response to the rising insecurity, hundreds of students stormed the streets of Akungba-Akoko on Saturday in protest, demanding justice and immediate intervention from the Ondo State Government. The demonstrators carried placards with messages such as “Stop Killing Us” and “Say No to Student Killings in Akungba,” decrying what they described as growing threats against non-indigene students in the town.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee condemned the spate of killings, issuing a 24-hour ultimatum for authorities to apprehend all those involved. In a statement jointly signed by Chairman Adekanye Adeboye and Secretary Oladele Emmanuel, NANS said: “We demand swift and decisive action from the state government and security agencies. Our lives are not expendable.”

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that three suspects had already been taken into custody and assured the public that efforts to arrest the fleeing boyfriend were ongoing.

Meanwhile, the university’s Head of Media and Protocols, Mr Victor Akinpelumi, appealed for calm, urging students to allow law enforcement to carry out a thorough investigation.

As investigations continue, the tragic death of Joy Adeyemi has amplified urgent calls for improved security in student communities across the state.
