After their 23-year-old pregnant daughter was discovered dead at her husband’s home on Tuesday, July 29, a Kerala, India, family is still in shock and mourning.
Faseela’s death has prompted the arrest of her 29-year-old husband, Naufal, and her mother-in-law, after disturbing details emerged suggesting she had been subjected to prolonged physical and emotional abuse.
According to local media reports, including The Hindu, Faseela was pregnant with her second child at the time of her death.
She had reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to her mother shortly before she died, accusing her husband of beating her and her mother-in-law of verbal harassment.
Umma, I’m pregnant again. Naufal kicked me in the stomach and tortured me. When I was in pain, I held him by the neck. Umma, I’m dying — or they will kill me. Naufal broke my hand. His mother also tortured me and verbally abused me,” read the message, believed to be her last.
Faseela had been married to Naufal for one and a half years, and the couple had a 10-month-old son.
Her relatives revealed that she had frequently complained of domestic abuse, but her family had urged her to endure the mistreatment, dismissing it as common in many households.
A neighbour claimed that the abuse worsened after Naufal discovered she was pregnant again — a fact that her family only learned a day before her death.
A First Information Report (FIR) filed in the case accused both Naufal and his mother of persistently subjecting Faseela to mental and physical cruelty.
The report specifically highlighted that Naufal’s act of kicking his pregnant wife in the stomach inflicted severe mental and emotional trauma, believed to have contributed directly to her death.
