Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has sent a serious warning to politicians planning to manipulate the 2027 general elections, insisting that such actions will be met with deadly consequences.
In an exclusive interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, the veteran activist declared that the coming election will be a turning point in Nigeria’s political history.
Charly Boy stated, “The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria. Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die. What is coming by 2026 will make Nigerians decide whether to continue in this manner or to cause a revolution to happen in this country.”
The OurMumuDonDo Movement convener condemned Nigeria’s current political order, describing it as abnormal for “the worst of us” to keep leading “the best of us.”
He warned that such a system, if unchecked, was certain to “explode.”
He also dismissed the Lagos State government’s recent move to rename Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga as “outright silly and a bloody distraction,” stressing that his real focus was on rescuing millions of Nigerians who go to bed hungry every night.
“The solution to bad governance in Nigeria can only come when our votes begin to count. So, our concern right now should be how our votes would count in 2027. I see 2027 as rig and die. Enough is enough. We cannot continue to have the worst of us leading the best of us. It is abnormal to let this kind of system continue. This is bound to explode. We have nothing to lose,” he declared.
Charly Boy also expressed solidarity with activist Omoyele Sowore following his recent arrest by the Nigerian Police, commending his fearless stance against bad governance.
“Anyone doing the kind of things Sowore is engaged in should be ready at any time for arrest. This is a government without any checks,” he said.
“It is not easy to speak truth to power. We need a lot more people like him in Nigeria. I have always maintained that the salvation of Nigeria lies in the hands of its exceptional young people. So, I’m happy that he has regained his freedom. I will say it is back to the tranches because the fight is just beginning.”
