A female food vendor, identified as Ammaye, has been lynched by an angry mob in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The incident occurred at Kasuwan Garba market after a disagreement that reportedly began in Igwama, a nearby community.

Ammaye, described as a popular Muslim food seller, was said to have had a verbal exchange with a young man alleged to be her nephew.

According to eyewitnesses, the young man jokingly told her he wanted to marry her “to fulfill the Sunnah,” prompting Ammaye to make remarks that some locals considered blasphemous.

The matter was subsequently taken before the District Head of Kasuwan Garba, where Ammaye allegedly repeated her comments during questioning.

She was then handed over to security operatives for further investigation.

However, an irate crowd overpowered the security agents, seized her, and stoned her to death.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Mariga Local Government, Abbas Adamu, stated that calm has since been restored in the area.
