Manchester City began their Champions League campaign with a 2–0 win over Napoli on Thursday.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku punished the Italians after captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo was sent off early at the Etihad Stadium.

City dominated from the outset, racking up 16 first-half shots but failing to break down Antonio Conte’s side.

Napoli resorted to playing deep after Di Lorenzo’s dismissal in the 21st minute for bringing down Haaland when through on goal.

In the 56th minute, Phil Foden clipped a delicate ball into the box and Haaland reacted quickest, glancing a clever header over Milinković-Savić to net.

The goal marks his 50th Champions League goal in just 49 games.

Doku then killed off the contest 10 minutes later, twisting past Sam Beukema before sliding a low shot beneath the keeper for 2–0.

With the result secured, City now turn attention to their Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday.
