Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service have caught a man attempting to smuggle illegal substances suspected to be psychoactive drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje.
The incident was mentioned in a press release signed by the FCT Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adamu Duza, on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Njimogu Ikedi, was stopped around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday while attempting to visit an inmate.
Duza explained that during a routine security search, officers discovered items “believed to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive substances concealed inside his boxer shorts, which were worn in form of a diaper.”
Controller of Corrections FCT Command, Christopher Jen, “ordered that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
“Jen called on visitors with ulterior motives to desist from such acts as their actions will be uncovered by his eagle-eyed personnel.
“He further called on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Nigerian Correctional Service in its efforts towards reforming and rehabilitating offenders so as to foster public safety,” the statement added.
