A shocking incident happened in Mexico City when a man groped and attempted to kiss Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum as she greeted citizens on the street.

The disturbing encounter happened on Tuesday, November 4, as Sheinbaum walked toward an event near the presidential palace, shaking hands and posing for photos with members of the public.

A viral video shows a visibly intoxicated man lunging toward the president, trying to kiss her neck and grabbing her from behind.

Sheinbaum quickly pulled away, turning to face him before a government aide intervened and blocked the man.

Maintaining her composure, Sheinbaum smiled and said, “Don’t worry.”

State police later confirmed that the man had been arrested.

The following day, Wednesday, November 5, Sheinbaum announced that she would press charges.

“This is something I experienced as a woman, but it is something that all women in our country experience,” Sheinbaum said during her daily press briefing.

“If I do not file a complaint, where does that leave all Mexican women? If they do this to the president, what happens to all the other women in the country?”
