Panic and pandemonium broke out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Wadata Plaza on Tuesday as rival factions clashed, forcing police to unleash teargas to restore order.
The standoff pitted the Nyesom Wike-backed group against the party’s new national working committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Turaki, both holding meetings at the same venue.
Samuel Anyanwu, national secretary of the Wike faction, arrived with his supporters ahead of their planned board of trustees (BoT) and national executive committee (NEC) sessions.
Tensions escalated rapidly, prompting police to order all party members out and deploy teargas, leaving politicians, aides, and journalists scrambling for safety.
Supporters outside the headquarters were reportedly armed with cudgels and assorted objects, heightening fears as the situation turned chaotic.
The Wadata Plaza drama underscores the deepening divisions within the PDP ahead of critical party decisions.
