Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, is on the verge of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as internal crisis continues to tear apart the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor’s political adviser, Mr Istifanus Nwansat, confirmed the looming defection on Monday in Abuja, describing the APC as the safest political option amid the crisis rocking the opposition party.
Nwansat said the instability within the PDP has made it an unreliable platform for electoral contests, prompting a strategic reassessment by the governor and his team.
According to him, from the assessment and analysis of all the available options, we have concluded that the safest decision for us today, and with the least risk factor, is to move into the APC.
He explained that Muftwang’s decision is also influenced by the need to align Plateau State with President Bola Tinubu’s political and governance direction.
“That is why the governor is moving into the APC. And again, the governor believes that it is good and reasonable enough as a leader for him to move his people to align with Mr President.
“This is because by our own assessment as a state, even though we are members of the PDP, we appreciate and recognise the efforts of Mr President in putting things right.”
