Abia 2027 governorship hopeful, Sir Mascot Uzor-Kalu, has declared that leadership without impact on the lives of the people is meaningless, insisting he will run a people-first government if elected.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia on Monday, the former Abia State Chief of Staff said Abia’s future hinges on governance that listens, cares and delivers solutions to everyday problems faced by citizens.

He warned against policies driven by political convenience, stressing that real development only happens when government decisions reflect the realities on the ground and the genuine needs of the people.

“Governance must be about the people. If leadership does not translate into better living conditions, improved infrastructure, and opportunities for our youths, then it has missed its purpose. My vision for Abia is simple and clear. It is about putting the people first in everything we do,” Kalu said.

The APC governorship aspirant said transparency, accountability and strong institutions would form the backbone of his administration, noting that trust between government and citizens can only be rebuilt through openness and fairness.

“Abians deserve a government they can trust. Transparency, accountability, and fairness must be the foundation of leadership if we are serious about progress,” he said.

Kalu also placed economic empowerment at the centre of his agenda, stressing that job creation, support for small businesses and skills development are key to tackling poverty and unemployment across the state.

“We cannot talk about development without addressing unemployment. Our young people are creative and hardworking. With the right policies and support, Abia can become a hub of productivity and innovation.”

Calling for inclusive governance, he said women, youths and rural communities must not be sidelined, insisting that development must touch every part of Abia.

“Every community matters. From Aba to the most remote villages, governance must be felt and experienced by the people,” Kalu said.

He ended his statement by reaffirming that his ambition is rooted in service, not self-interest, describing leadership as a sacred responsibility.

“Public office is a privilege. It demands sacrifice, integrity, and a genuine desire to improve lives. That is the kind of leadership I stand for,” he said.
