The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has openly declared its readiness to welcome Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 governorship race, saying the door remains wide open for him.
Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, said the party is optimistic that Otti could still return to the PDP fold for a second-term bid.
Speaking in Umuahia, Wabara said the PDP would not hesitate to field Otti as its governorship candidate “if he makes up his mind to join” the party, describing him as a prized asset any political platform would gladly embrace.
According to the former Senate President, the increasing courtship of Otti by different political parties is driven by his performance in office, stressing that his governance record positions him strongly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wabara also pointed to the ongoing rebranding efforts of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), saying the reforms have repositioned the PDP as a credible and attractive platform for ambitious politicians.
He described the South-East as a traditional PDP stronghold, adding that Otti’s eventual defection would significantly boost the party’s fortunes in the zone and help restore its political dominance.
Wabara further disclosed that PDP elders are intensifying consultations aimed at rebuilding the party and attracting progressive leaders capable of driving its revival ahead of future elections.
