President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project be redesigned to pass through Ogoni land, signaling a major shift in the project’s route and a renewed focus on the Niger Delta’s infrastructural inclusion.
The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, disclosed this during a visit to Rivers State as part of a high-level federal delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Umahi explained that the Federal Ministry of Works will collaborate closely with the Rivers State Government to ensure a smooth commencement of the construction phase within the state.
The delegation also included the Minister of Environment, Hon. Balarabe Abbas Lawal, among other top government officials. The rerouting decision is expected to enhance economic connectivity and open up development opportunities in Ogoni land, which has long sought greater federal infrastructure presence.
